What is Operation Blackboard?
Operation Blackboard was a program launched by the Indian government in 1987 to improve the quality of primary education in the country. Its main goals were to:
- Improve the infrastructure of primary schools by providing basic necessities like buildings, furniture, and teaching materials.
- Reduce student dropout rates and encourage more children, especially girls, to attend primary school.
- Shift the teaching style to a more child-centered approach.
The program was entirely funded by the central government and implemented by state governments.
