E. Gordon Gee, who recently concluded his tenure as president of West Virginia University, is making a notable return to Ohio State University as a consultant. This move comes as he aims to assist the university in establishing a new center focused on promoting “intellectual diversity,” as reported by local news sources.
During his one-year engagement, Gee will act as a valuable resource for university leadership, helping to advance strategic initiatives that align with the institution’s goals. His extensive experience in higher education will be instrumental in guiding discussions and decisions that shape the future of the university.
Gee’s role will include residencies in the law and public affairs colleges, as well as at the Salmon P. Chase Center for Civics, Culture, and Society. This center was established in response to recent legislative changes aimed at fostering civil discourse within the academic community. According to reports, his consultancy could yield earnings of up to $150,000.
OSU President Ted Carter Jr. expressed enthusiasm about Gee’s return, stating, “We have an exciting vision for Ohio State to define the future of higher education, and we can only benefit from having experienced leadership voices around the table. Gordon knows Ohio State well and will bring valuable insights to our conversations.”
Gee’s history with Ohio State is extensive; he served as president from 1990 to 1998 and again from 2007 to 2013. His leadership experience also includes presidencies at several prestigious institutions, including Vanderbilt University, Brown University, and the University of Colorado, in addition to his recent role at West Virginia University.
