In an impressive display of growth, Instagram Threads, a competitor to X, has now reached over 350 million monthly active users. This milestone was announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg during the company’s Q1 2025 earnings call. The platform has seen an increase of 30 million users since the last quarter, where it reported a user base of 320 million.
This surge in user numbers highlights a positive trend for Threads, as it gained 30 million users in the first quarter of this year, a notable increase from the 20 million added in the previous quarter. Interestingly, Threads has managed to attract nearly the same number of users in a single quarter as its newer rival, Bluesky, which currently boasts around 35 million users.
In contrast, X has surpassed 600 million monthly active users, as stated by its CEO, Linda Yaccarino, during the same earnings call.
Although Threads still trails behind Meta’s other social media platforms—such as Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp—its rapid growth is solidifying its position within the microblogging landscape. Meta reports that over 3.4 billion individuals engage with at least one of its applications on a daily basis.
During the earnings call, Zuckerberg expressed optimism about Threads’ trajectory, indicating that its growth suggests it is on the path to becoming the next significant social media application.
